Water is the basis of life on earth
Even though e.g. Denmark has plenty of water in the ground – the pure water is no longer something we can take for granted. In bigger cities the development recent years means that sometimes we experience the the water resources in the ground is insufficient and also in some instances the water is polluted.
This means that we have to protect the drinking water. We need to take actions to protect the water and see that we only use what is necessary. Excessive use of water will eventually mean that the water quality will diminish.
The future access to pure water will depend on our use of the existing resources. Did you know that each person in Denmark uses approximately 150 liter of water a day? – for cleaning, personal hygiene, food-preparation etc.
Tap-water vs. bottle-water
Today many buys water on bottles. The quality is high – but not necessarily higher than tap-water. Bottled water can be divided into 3 categories: Mineral water, Spring water and other bottled water. The two first origins from a spring under the ground. Of the three types mineral water is the type that differentiates the most from the other – because the mineral water contains many minerals and also because of the “soft” taste.
However the tap-water has enough minerals to support our daily need. All water resources in Denmark are subject to very hard and efficient control from authorities. The the limits of impurities contents are set very much below the values that will affect your health. If the limits are not respected the water source are closed until the problem has been solved. Regarding bottled water the risk is that bacteria's will grow if the water is not refilled or changed in a few days. This is a consistent problem with water coolers that are not used every day – if they are of the reservoir-type.
